In 1946 four small groups, a theatre group , a music group , a disscussion group and a film society housed at what was previously Avoncroft College amalgamated to form Avoncroft Arts Society.
It is some years since the Society was called “The Dirty Hands Brigade” of the local Cultural, Arts and Crafts organisations. Members accept the designation with pride because it emphasises the ethos of Avoncroft: members come together to do their chosen activities.
Avoncroft Arts Society's principle objective is education,to practice hobbies and leisure pursuits of the arts. The Society, stages classes or groups in Painting and Drawing, Pottery, Art Textiles, Sugarcraft and Folk Dancing.
A non profit making organisation the society is administered by an Executive Committee of Trustees, made up of members.
